Fay and I had the opportunity yesterday to go on one of our quick adventures. Where is a place we haven't been? Hmmm, how about Oxford, Mississippi? Fantastic! Let's go!

Our very good friends Christian and Lisa Harrison who own Frameblender Films and Dear Little Films live down that way and we haven't seen them in seemingly forever.

It was a crisp, but sunny day as we drove down from Memphis. Really, it was unseasonably warm for January in these parts, but Fay and I weren't complaining.

We first checked out the campus of Ole Miss. How beautiful. It looked like every building had just been built or renovated. Everything we saw looked brand new. Afterward, we started looking for lunch so we meandered to the downtown square.

The square seemed very busy for a Sunday. Maybe it was the pleasant, sunny weather. We looked for lunch at Bouré and the Ajax Diner, which were highly recommended to us, but both were closed for the day. We ended up at Abner's which is a chain restaurant, but a very good one nonetheless.

We had a little time to explore before Christian and Lisa were free to meet up, so I looked up the location for William Faulkner's home, Rowan Oak on the iPhone and we made our way over to it. Fay and I trekked the grounds (which is free, by the way), made a few photos, and left several people, most likely U of M students, back with their books and cameras.

Exploring the town a little further, Fay and I came upon a cemetery. I saw a historic register sign in the distance. All I could make out from that distance, was the name, William Faulkner at the top of the sign. I pulled the truck into the cemetery and got out with my camera. I walked back to the sign and from there was able to locate the author's gravesite.

Fay and I finally met up with Christian and Lisa at High Point Coffee, just off the square and sat and talked for two hours catching up on what had happened since we were all last together. (Poor Fay was freezing as we were sitting outside and the sun had dropped low in the sky and was rapidly disappearing.)

All in all, the trip was very enjoyable and I wouldn't hesitate to go back again. I'll be certain to take more photos next time of the Ole Miss campus and trek through Mr. Faulkner's home at length; and hopefully, those highly recommended restaurants will be open.

New Orleans

Hey there!

Fay and I got to go to New Orleans for a bit of a mini-honeymoon as well as attend Imaging USA (the ginormous professional photography expo that is held every year). Here's a few images from a fantastic quick trip. If you are a fan of Anthony Bourdain's show, The Layover, you'll know exactly what Fay and I did while we were there.

It was a pleasure to meet landscape and nature photographer (and Nikon Tech Rep),

Bill Fortney at the private Nikon VIP suite while the good folks at Nikon were giving my D700 a well-deserved complimentary cleaning.

Monday evening I made reservations for Fay and I at Chef Paul Prudhomme's fantastic

restaurant, K-Paul's, in the French Quarter.

Beef filet medallions in a Debris sauce was what I ordered for dinner. Fay got the Shrimp

Etouffee. Both dishes were absolutely fantastic as was the wonderful service by our server, Elizabeth.

The Hotel New Orleans was excellent and Fay and I highly recommend it.

Lunch on Tuesday for Fay and I was at The Camellia Grill.

Simply excellent.

Before heading back to Memphis, Fay and I went through the Garden District and found this little cemetery (Lafayette Cemetery) that was closing up just as we got there. I managed to fire off a shot or two, but I look forward to checking this out thoroughly one day. It is right across from the Commander's Palace that will also be getting some attention on our return visit.

I love different cultures. If you know anything about me, you know that I watch NatGeo a lot. I also have a subscription to National Geographic as well. It fascinates me to see other's traditions and ceremonies, whether it is the many variations of Christian ceremonies, Jewish, or in this case, Hindu.

I recently had the honor of photographing Neema and Nandan's wedding that took place at Carahills II. Everything about this wedding engaged your senses. The colors, the details, the fragrances, the music; all of it was enthralling.

I wanted to share with you a few photos from that day. I hope you enjoy them. And I am deeply humbled and honored to have been allowed the opportunity to capture Neema and Nandan's special day.

The park was being set up for Memphis in May and was in no condition for photography. No problem! We moved over to Harbortown and got some fantastic images there, then went to Beale Street to finish up their session. Here are just a few of the photos that were captured. Delectables Catering at Minglewood

Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to work again with Olivia Ward and Delectables Catering. This time we were a little closer to home at Minglewood Hall in Midtown Memphis. Brittany and Michael Engagement Session

Last Sunday afternoon, I met Brittany and Michael at Saint Louis Catholic Church and School to photograph their engagement portraits. I like to incorporate places and things in the photographs that mean something special to each couple I photograph. So when they told me that they had known eachother as far back as kindergarten, it was a natural to shoot some photos where they grew up together. Kirstin and Jeff Engagement Session

Last Sunday, I got to photograph Kirstin's and Jeff's Engagement Session at Rhodes College and Harbortown. What a beautiful campus! I was seeing locations to shoot everywhere I turned. I am very pleased with the resulting photos. Also, Harbortown was where Jeff first proposed to Kirstin. Being a place of good memories and important in their love story, we had to get shots down there just as a gorgeous sun was setting. Fantastic!! Here are just a few of the images from Sunday.
